And for many, it’s not just any baby, but the perfect baby. They will not sabotage Jr.’s future by denying him a nursery chandelier, Louis Vuitton nappy paraphernalia, or infant yoga. “The Perfect Baby Handbook” satirizes these ‘excessively motivated’ parents in a visual and sophisticated approach that they will actually appreciate. It will provide badly needed comic relief from the pressures of being a new parent today, and give comfort to many who, if they can’t laugh at themselves, can at least say, ‘at least we’re not this bad’. |

A Field Guide to Burying Your Parents $2.99 Grace Hawkes has not spoken to her previously tight-knit family since her mother’s sudden death five years ago. Well, most of the family was tight-knit – her father walked out on them when she was 13 and she and her two brothers and sister bonded together even closer with their mother as a result. She’s been doing her best to live her new life apart from them, but when their estranged father has a stroke and summons them, Grace suddenly realizes she’s done the same thing he had done . . . abandoned those who need her most. And need her they do, for inside the hospital walls, a strange war is unfolding between the pseudo-kindly woman who is their father’s second wife and the rest of the original Hawkes clan. Upon reconnecting with her brother and sisters, Grace will find a part of herself she thought was lost forever. As they unravel the manipulative deception of the second Mrs. Hawkes, Grace will finally be able to stand up for her family – and to remember what a family is, even after all these years. |

The Idle Parent: Why Laid-Back Parents Raise Happier and Healthier Kids $4.99 Many parents today spend a whole lot of time worrying and wondering – frantically “helicoptering” over their children with the hope that they might somehow keep (or make?) them flawless. But where is this approach to childcare getting us? According to Hodgkinson, in our quest to give our kids everything, we fail to give them the two things they need most: the space and time to grow up self-reliant, confident, happy, and free. In this smart and hilarious book, Hodgkinson urges parents to stop worrying and instead start nurturing the natural instincts toward creativity and independence that are found in every child. And the great irony: in doing so, we will find ourselves becoming happier and better parents. |

4-WHEEL-DRIVE WITH KAYAK & RAN $19.99 Playmobil Playset – 4-Wheel Drive with Kayak and Ranger. Wheel Drive with Kayak and Ranger Paddle downstream on your kayak or go off-roading in your 4-Wheel Drive. Includes a figure, elk, kayak that floats on water, paddles, red 4-wheel drive, and other accessories. Once upon a time in 1876, there was a locksmith named Andreas Brandstatter. Mr. Brandstatter planted a magical seed that would eventually blossom into Playmobil by founding an eponymous lock and metal fitting company in Furth, Germany. By the 1930s, Playmobil’s pretend play had again been redefined; manufacturing telephones, cash registers, and various items for toy shops using sheet metal. At the beginning of the 1950s, Horst Brandstatter, the Playmobil’s current owner, came on board and started a new era in the company history. He updated Playmobil pretend play products, searched out new markets and focused production on his favorite material, plastic. In 1958, the hula hoop craze gripped the world, and Horst Brandstatter was determined to perfect the pretend play toy that would inspire further exploration. Realizing that the technique, using air pressure, hot plastic hoses, and shape molds, could also produce basically any shape (in addition to the traditional bottles and hoops), Mr. Brandstatter created the first prototype Playmobil pretend play item, a closed racing car manufactured in a single production step. From that point on, the company expanded rapidly with products in toys. Playmobil was introduced at the 1974 International Toy Fair in Nuremberg and by using an innovative marketing strategy, parents and children responded uniformly with fascination and enthusiasm, to Playmobil. |

A Crash of Rhinos $34.63 In these quizzically probing and provocative poems, atoms and torture, tattoos and laundromats, mug shots, the theory of light, and such personalities as Joe Louis and Bruce Lee join in shaping a simultaneously personal and historical narrative of love, family, and desire. The tension between the public and the private saturates these poems with a breathless energy that carries the reader through Rekdal”s self-aware depiction of American culture and romance, complete with Harlequin romance novels and an account of her parents” courtship. Though Rekdal delights in turning traditional images of love upside down, what she finally offers is a grateful and graceful view of humanity, which convinces us that, as she says in Convocation : Nothing is a single moment . . . / No private event lacks history. |

A Family Divided: A Divorced Father’s Struggle with the Child Custody Industry $20.22 More and more, politicians, religious leaders, and behavioral experts blame the increase in crime, drug abuse, and teen pregnancy in modern society on the breakdown of the family. What these experts may not realize, however, is that the divorce industry fosters this collapse: The courts persist in viewing mothers as the only proper guardians – the primary parents – even in the overwhelming majority of cases that do not involve abusive husbands. Hence, fathers are eased – or shoved – out of their children’s lives. In A Family Divided author Robert Mendelson, a freelance writer, presents the divorced father’s point of view, arguing that fathers are not superfluous and not all of them should be considered deadbeat dads who shirk their parental responsibilities. Moreover, public opinion, the press, and the courts are wrong to believe that men cannot be single parents; that a parental role can be fulfilled through sporadic weekend visits. Mendelson demonstrates that both society’s and the children’s best interests require two active and involved parents, even if they maintain separate residences. |

A Game of Character: A Family Journey from the Southside of Chicago to the Ivy League and Beyond $1.88 The eagerly anticipated inspirational memoir from Michelle Obama’s brother, celebrating the extraordinary family members and mentors who have shaped his life. When he stepped into history’s spotlight at the National Democratic Convention, Craig Robinson recalls that nothing could have been more gratifying than introducing his sister, Michelle Obama, to millions of Americans. Within minutes, he won the hearts of the nation by sharing highlights of growing up in the modest Robinson household, where the two were raised by devoted parents who taught them the values of education, hard work, and the importance of reaching far beyond what even seemed possible. Those lessons of character were fundamentals in shaping Craig Robinson’s own remarkable journey: from his days playing street basketball on Chicago’s Southside, while excelling academically, to admission at Princeton University, where he was later named Ivy League Player of the Year, twice. After playing professionally in Europe, Robinson made an about-face, entering the competitive field of finance. With his MBA from the University of Chicago, his meteoric rise landed him a partnership in a promising new venture. But another dream beckoned and Craig made the unusual decision to forego the trappings of money and status in the business world in order to become a basketball coach. He soon helped transform three struggling teams – as an assistant coach at Northwestern, then as head coach at Brown and now at Oregon State University. In his first season at OSU, he navigated what was declared to be one of the nation’s best single season turnarounds. In A Game of Character, Robinson takes readers behind the scenes tomeet his most important influences in his understanding of the winning traits that are part of his playbook for success. Central to his story are his parents, Marian and Fraser, two indefatigable individuals who showed their children how to believe in themselves and live their lives with |

A Life of H. L. A. Hart: The Nightmare and the Noble Dream $28.46 H.L.A. Hart was the pre-eminent legal philosopher of the twentieth century. As a scholar he single-handedly reinvented the philosophy of law and revolutionized our understanding of law as a social institution. Hart’s approach to legal philosophy was at once disarmingly simple andbreathtakingly ambitious, combining the insights of the Utilitarian tradition and the new linguistic philosophy of J.L. Austin and Ludwig Wittgenstein. He sought to elucidate a concept of law that would be of relevance to all forms of law, wherever or whenever they arose. This book is both an intellectual and a psychological biography, following his life from modest origins as the son of Jewish tailor parents in Yorkshire to worldwide fame as the most influential English-speaking legal theorist of the post-War era. It traces his successive metamorphoses; fromYorkshire schoolboy to Oxford scholar, successful barrister, intelligence officer, philosopher, and, finally, Professor of Jurisprudence at Oxford. Nicola Lacey draws upon Hart’s previously unpublished diaries and letters to reveal a complex interior life. Outwardly successful, Hart was in fact tormented by doubts about his intellectual abilities, his sexual identity and his capacity to form close relationships. Her biography also shedsfascinating light on the origins of his ideas, and assesses his overall contribution to the philosophy of law. Above all, it is a chronicle of a life which made an impact far greater than many of us realize. |

A Painted House $27.95 The hill people and the Mexicans arrived on the same day. It was a Wednesday, early in September 1952. The Cardinals were five games behind the Dodgers with three weeks to go, and the season looked hopeless. The cotton, however, was waist-high to my father, over my head, and he and my grandfather could be heard before supper whispering words that were seldom heard. It could be a good crop. Thus begins the new novel from John Grisham, a story inspired by his own childhood in rural Arkansas. The narrator is a farm boy named Luke Chandler, age seven, who lives in the cotton fields with his parents and grandparents in a little house that’s never been painted. The Chandlers farm eighty acres that they rent, not own, and when the cotton is ready they hire a truckload of Mexicans and a family from the Ozarks to help harvest it. For six weeks they pick cotton, battling the heat, the rain, the fatigue, and, sometimes, each other. As the weeks pass Luke sees and hears things no seven-year-old could possibly be prepared for, and finds himself keeping secrets that not only threaten the crop but will change the lives of the Chandlers forever.A Painted House is a moving story of one boy’s journey from innocence to experience.Letter From John Grisham:Dear Friends:A Painted House is not a legal thriller. A Perfect Divorce $1.01 Corman writes with a warm and wise empathy that could strike a chord with many. – Publishers Weekly Avery Corman apparently knows how it all works–or doesn’t–with the fast track urban middle-class: career, workaholism, divorce and children, single parent stress, SAT stress, copelessness that passes for coping. In this densely detailed, fast-moving story that has the scope of cultural anthropology, he is compassionate, clinical and funny. And with a surprise at the end that is credible as well as heart-warming. -Jules Feiffer A hard and lovely take on the psychological and emotional costs that even the most civilized divorce can exact on parents and children….Corman’s observations are subtle, yet bracing; his dialogue lean, yet potent; his wisdom confronting, yet humane. There may not be a perfect divorce, but Corman may have written a perfect book on divorce. – Sunday Oregonian This is life after Kramer vs. Kramer, tender, tough and so true it hurts. In crystal clear prose, Corman superbly lays bare the secrets we hide, even from ourselves. -Barbara Goldsmith, author of Other Powers: The Age of Suffrage, Spiritualism and the Scandalous Victoria Woodhull, Johnson v. Johnson, and Little Gloria…Happy at Last |

A Terribly Wild Man $56.05 Saint or sinner? Turbulent priest or dedicated shepherd? Ernest Gribble’s life teemed with trials and contradictions. But who was this terribly wild man ? Gribble wanted to be a drover or jackeroo, but he obeyed his dying father and embraced a missionary career with all the fervor of his tormented soul. Obsessed with sex, according to his superiors, Gribble zealously policed the behavior of his Aboriginal charges, ruling his missions with a benevolent rod of iron. Anticipating the Stolen Generations, he abducted Aboriginal children from their parents for their own protection. To his contemporaries, this driven, quixotic man was either a visionary, a madman, or a traitor to white society. His single-minded championing of Aboriginal rights made him powerful enemies, and his campaign for an investigation into a police massacre of Aboriginals in the 1920s put Australia in the international spotlight. Gribble’s tortured private life matched his controversial public career. Once described as the first successful missionary to the Aboriginals, Gribble would die in obscurity, mourned only by those he had spent his life trying to protect. Christine Halse’s biography reveals the humanity of this complex, tragic figure a man whose life echoes the tensions that haunt Australia’s past. |

AMPHIBIAN VEHICLE W/DINOSAUR $44.99 Help the explorer trap the dinosaur in its cage. The Amphibian Vehicle is compatible with the PLAYMOBIL Underwater Motor. Includes removable cage with door that lifts and extendable ramp. Also comes with a figure, dinosaur, helmet, flashlight, binocular, and many other accessories. Recommended for ages four and up. |
